Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get Americal Division Veterans Association membership information?Membership information is provided on the website. This includes a membership application that you can download to your computer. Go to our Membership Information page. Mr. Larry Swank is the ADVA membership chairman. Click Here to send an e-mail to Larry. He will send you information via U.S. postal service if you provide him with your mailing address. [ Back to Top ] How can I locate a buddy of mine that I served with in the military? The ADVA web locator has had good success in connecting veterans to former buddies. The web locator contains hundreds of requests from veterans seeking other veterans. The locator is classified by major unit and you can submit your request in a matter of minutes. For more information, go to the ADVA Locator. An item can also be inserted into the Americal Journal. Space is limited but every attempt is made to publish all locator requests. If you wish to publish a locator request in the newsletter, submit an e-mail to Gary Noller. [ Back to Top ] How do I find out what units were in the Americal Division? The Americal Division Order of Battle for each era of activation is listed on the website. Some units were in the division for a long time. Others were assigned or attached for only a short time. The website does not yet contain a comprehensive listing of all units of all eras. For more information, go to the Order of Battle page. If you have specific Order of Battle questions please send an e-mail to Gary Noller. [ Back to Top ] How do I get copies of military records and request medals that I have earned?Requests can be made by veterans or their next of kin and should be made on a government form that is called the Standard Form 180. It provides information about the service history of the veteran and the specifics of the request being made. The form must be submitted to the appropriate Military Records Center. Assistance in obtaining records or medals can be provided by Veterans Service Organizations such as the VFW, American Legion, DAV, VVA, etc. and local and state veterans agencies. For an on-line Standard Form 180 or for answers to other questions, go to federal government's Military Personal Records frequently asked questions page. [ Back to Top ] How can I meet other Americal veterans? The ADVA National Reunion is held each year in different cities across the country. The 2009 national reunion will be in Shreveport, LA in June. Regional chapters also schedule reunions from time to time. For other events that attract Americal veterans please click the Hot News button on the home page. For more infomation, go to Reunion. [ Back to Top ] Why are some Americal units included on the website and others? The ADVA website intends to cover all Americal units in a general sense. Some individual veterans have created web pages for their specific units and have requested that they be included within the ADVA website. After consideration of the merits of each request, these unit pages may be allowed to be posted on the server under the www.americal.org domain name. If you have researched information about your unit and would like to have it considered for posting on the ADVA site, please send an e-mail to the ADVA Webmaster.
