It is with deep regret I announce the passing on 21 July 99, of Tony Rotolo of Sedona AZ, formerly of Chicago, a ww2 Americal soldier, wounded on Guadalcanal, my father-in-law. We never swapped stories, though mine would pale to his.

Hoping to find some of the good old boys from Bravo company (1st Batallion 51st Infantry) . Lots of good memories from those days, hoping to make some new ones!
Anyone recall a hill (3/18 Arty) on the west side of Hwy 1 overlooking the Chu Lai with from May 68 to May 69? Anyone use Chu Lai Beach for in-country R&R from May 69 to Dec 69?
Wow! Lots of memories here!! I was the RTO outta Da Nang and Chu Lui, with Mackey, Sgt Murt, Rattray, Stiener, Miller, Louellen, Louallen, Garcia, Lt Anderson and Lt loser Knight. Have enjoyed this site, would look forward to emails of those that were there. Great page!! thanks for your time...
I worked for the "Southern Cross" and on other related Division newsletters, magazines, etc.
Would like to know more about DAV.
I think that it is great that you have a web site that all military members past and present can use to try to get in contact with other service members that they may not have contacted in years. You give us hope that we will be once again to contact old friends and room mates. Keep up the good work.
I think that this is a great service to all American Servicemen. It is very hard to find friends that you have made, then are unable to find them through the years. Thankyou for this service.
I would like to find out if their is a roster of the grunts and what units they served in. This locator is great, but names don't pop in the old gourd unless a name is seen by unit(s). We got shipped wherever and whenever they needed us. So friends of the 198th Inf LIB. (B co 123 AVN Aero Scouts, A Co 1/52 Inf, & B Co 1/46 Inf). I would like to hear from any and everyone.
Would like more information on 101st Airborne Division, to learn who my father was.
Great Web Site!
Trained at Fort Hood, Texas in 1966 to Sept 68. Started the 198th Infantry Bde in 1967. 1/46th Inf. Up the street from the Bowler Green area. Seventeen of us grunt came from Fort Polk, La. waiting order to ship over to Nam. But instead we were the first hand full to start the 198th LIB and was very proud to be in it. Used to walk out to Cow house creek and wade up to our ass in water (which include real live bullets shooting over our heads)then march back to good ole Fort Hood. Then spend days on end in the Texas training area finding our own food and water. It didn't even compare to the training in Viet Nam Training Camp. Anyways enough, All grunts know what I'm mean. Anyone that may know me, Please drop a line. home 1-775-241-7661 work 1-775-687-4660 Dayton, NV. or Carson City, Nv.
just found site from another Americal Vet. Found Floyd Talleys sister. Great Site
Started the intial B Company 123 aviation Aero Scouts in March 68. I was selected and assigned to 2nd squad "Animal 2". I was brought in from the 198th LIB. There was only 21 one grunts selected for this unit. 7 in each squad. We had to qualify with all the weapons the infantry carried. I was selected to carry the thump gun (79 gernade launcher). Hated the damned thing. At least I got a 38 special to carry also. When we was training, we always managed to land in the shit. I've got a few paper clippings of our so called training and landing in it. All we did was kill or capture and get out. It was the best damned unit the Army ever come up with. The best part was very litte walking. Always flew the them. Just after I left in September 68 (due to losing my mother) I heard the 123rd got their asses kicked badly. Lost almost everything. I wish I was there. My commrades and best buddies were there. Now I've only found a few that have started the unit and hope to find more. To all those I've lost and those who made it back. I'd like to hear from you. Tom Thompson GRUNT! JUNGLE BUNNY! SWAMP RAT! lONG TOM! DAVY CROCKET! It's all the same. Ground pounder, Cannon Fodder. It was us who the Army depends on to save the country and the land.
I thing its great to try to locate someone your were in the service with.

Visitted website periodically and found one man who served in another platoon and recalled name of since deceased comrade I'd forgotten. Would like to find others who served in 3rd platoon B Co., 3/21 inf. 196th LIB Sept 1970 Sept 1971. I was medic assigned from HQ Co to that unit.

Tracing the origins of the 161AHC, I was with the 161 when it was first formed at Ft. Benning GA and traveledd to Vietnam on the USS Point Cruz, an Aircraft Carrier with the 161 Helicopters, arrived in Qui Nhon Harbor and men and helicopters were moved to the site of Camp Lane, l4 miles West of Qui Nhon along side the ROK Tiger Division. Operated in Bhin Dhin Porvince. Unit operated under the 52nd CAB and later the 14th CAB of the l7th Combat Aviation Group. The unit won two V devices of Valor. Became part of the 123rd CAB of the Americal in December l967 and the 161 AHC became Company "A" of the 123rd CAB of the Americal. e-mail: kaatz@worldnet.att.net
GREAT WEBPAGE! WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT OTHER VETS FROM SAME UNIT SAME ERA
My uncle, Kenneth E. Gross, T4, ASN16 100 370 was a member of the division attached to the 221st Field Arty Batt. He was killed on Leyte on 11 Feb 1945. I have been trying to gather information on his time in the Army. Can you provide information about the Battalion, members of his company, etc. His C.O. was Capt. Robert P. Chew.
I just wanted to give my heartfelt thanks to the people maintaining this site. My Dad is Hyman Trusten, who served in the 26 Signal Company during World War II. At this writing, he is 79 years young, and we constantly discuss his war experience. However, outwardly, he is shy, and would be a little embarrassed about this internet posting (he is not computer literate and will not see this). Still, he is intensely proud of his military service, and I would be glad to quietly relay any greetings that may be forthcoming from any of his contemporaries, especially, of course, those who served in his company.
I can't remember their names--just faces Doesn't mean i don't care I think of them every day
