The Americal Division Veterans Association was founded in 1945 by veterans returning from World War II. It is incorporated in the state of Massachusettes and is a IRS 501c19 war veterans organization.
Membership is open to all personnel assigned or attached to the Americal Divison or the 23rd Infantry Division during three periods of activation: World War II (1942-1945), Cold War (1954-1956), and the Vietnam War (1967-1971).
The ADVA is operated by elected officers to include Commander, Sr. Vice-Commander, Jr. Vice-Commander, and an Executive Committee of 11-18 elected and appointed members. The ADVA has 10-15 appointed officers that handle the day-to-day activities of the organization.
